MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Former Vice President Joe Biden, fresh off picking Kamala Harris as his running mate, is ahead of President Donald Trump in Wisconsin, according to a new poll.
The new August Marquette University Law School Poll shows Biden ahead of President Trump among likely voters 49% to 44%, and registered voters 48% to 42%.
“That’s little changed from last month,” Poll Director Charles Franklin told WTAQ. “In June, it was a 6.5 point lead with likely voters, and an 8 point lead with registered voters.”
Voter enthusiasm has evened out between Republicans and Democrats, but Independents are reporting a lower level of enthusiasm to vote.
“The most striking thing is how similar the two parties are in enthusiasm, and how much behind on enthusiasm independents are,” said Franklin. “Independents are quite a ways behind.”
Among Democrats, 65 percent are very enthusiastic and 64 percent of Republicans are equally enthusiastic. Thirty-seven percent of independents say they are very enthusiastic about voting this fall.
The poll also asked respondents their thoughts on Governor Tony Evers and his job handling the COVID-19 crisis, and it was good news for the Governor, showing an approval rating of 57% and a majority of Democrats and Independents, along with 43% of Republicans, showing support for the mask mandate.
