(WHBL) – With no overarching state rules to follow, it’s up to each school district to decide how it will operate the new school year under conditions similar to that which put an abrupt, often improvised end to the last one. In the case of the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District, which bridges both Sheboygan and Ozaukee Counties, that opening on September 1st is – for now – planned to be in-person, 5 days a week, with options. The school district on its website outlined plans that it says will evolve with time, but for now parents can plan to either send their students to class or elect to have their children learning in a virtual-only environment. Details of that aspect are still being finalized.
Those attending in person, students and staff alike, will have their temperatures taken, will be socially-distanced, and if that’s not feasible, then masks will be required for everyone. Middle and high schoolers will mostly use backpacks – no lockers – to keep hallways open, and some of those hallways will be one-way routes. More lunch periods have been added to reduce cafeteria populations, and more breaks will be allowed for hand washing.
As for keeping the buildings clean, Cedar Grove Belgium Schools have purchased a Clorox-360 disinfecting machine that uses an electrostatic fogger to sanitize spaces, and high-touch areas will get day-long attention by the custodial staff.
Like all school systems, they’ll be adjusting to meet the changing landscape under a pandemic, and more details will be out as the new school year approaches.
