(WHBL) – Those having trouble paying their utility bills due to COVID-19 in Wisconsin will now have a little longer to make arrangements with their providers for payments without worrying about being shut off. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin voted 2-1 Thursday to stay the portion of its June 26th order to extend the moratorium on utility residential customer disconnections and refusal of service for nonpayment until September 1st. The move comes as COVID-19 positive cases in the state more than doubled since the PSC met in June to order the end of the moratorium.
Those behind on payments will still need to settle their bills, and should contact their utility to make arrangements. If agreement can’t be reached they should contact the PSC at 800-225-7729.
Customers may also qualify for the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program. The number to call for that is 1-866-HEAT WIS.
