MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — For the second time in three days, Wisconsin saw more than 1,000 new confirmed cases of coronavirus and a double-digit increase in deaths.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services announced 1,052 new confirmed cases on Thursday. That was 6.9% of the 15,264 total tests reported. It was only the second time Wisconsin exceeded 15,000 tests in a single day.
New positives and the positive rate were also up from Wednesday’s numbers.
The state also reported 13 new deaths, bringing the total to 878. The 32 new deaths over the past three days was the most in a three-day period since June 18-20.
“We cannot continue down the path we’re on,” Gov. Tony Evers said in a news conference.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 45,899 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 778,842 negative tests.
Hospitalization information has not been updated since Tuesday.
The Wisconsin Hospitals Association says on its website that it is working to accommodate recently announced data collection requirements from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
