(WHBL) – One step taken to help people weather the COVID-19 pandemic was the placement of a moratorium on utility disconnections for those unable to make payments because of infection or recovery from the disease. That moratorium ends Saturday, July 25th and the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is urging those with outstanding bills to either make payment arrangements or apply for assistance before the end of next week.
Utilities began sending disconnection notices on Wednesday to those who haven’t made arrangements with their utility providers. Those who can’t reach agreement on a payment plan should contact the Public Service Commission at 800-225-7729.
The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program could also provide assistance in covering the bills. They can be contacted at 1-866-HEAT WIS, or online at homeenergyplus.wi.gov.
