SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – 21 more positive test returns for COVID-19 have been received since Tuesday, raising the county’s running total to 358 cases. Since Sunday, the 63 cases recorded so far this week account for more than 17-1/2% of those confirmed since March, and with 129 negative tests returned today, the positive test rate is at 14%. Eleven more persons have recovered from the disease raising that total to 240. One is currently hospitalized, and 4 have died in the county.
Within our state borders, another 821 positive returns were added to the running total – now at 38,727. 5.9% of all test returns were positive, and 1 more person has died from a coronavirus infection since Tuesday.
Despite the increased rate of positive test returns, Sheboygan County remains in Phase-2 of the Sheboygan County Safe Restart Plan. Progress is reviewed weekly each Friday to compare current conditions to benchmarks, and should any change be warranted, it will be announced then.
While many are struggling to make ends meet because of the covid-caused economic slowdown, scammers, it seems, are faring better than many, preying on the hopes and fears of a partially-educated public. The County Division of Health Services is warning people to be on guard against those scams, noting that during contact tracing, Public Health will NOT ask for personal information such as your Social Security number or banking information. If you are concerned you can contact Public Health at 920-459-0321. And if you believe you’ve been defrauded, contact the National Center for Disaster Fraud Hotline at 866-720-5721.
