SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The major annual fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sheboygan County has fallen victim to COVID-19. The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament – held each August at Deland Park – normally draws teams from across the nation. But Boys & Girls Club CEO Christina Singh says not this year. Singh says that the decision had to be made for the safety of players and the community at large.
The cancellation means the loss of tens of thousands of dollars for the Boys & Girls Club. Over $50,000 was generated last year for programming that serves area youth over the summer – and Singh is now hoping that individuals and businesses will step up and help fill the gap, saying that programs on learning-loss prevention, wellbeing and positive adult connections are more important now than ever.
