SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Sheboygan’s official Independence Day activities have been cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but many will choose to gather at city beaches, parks and back yards to celebrate. With that in mind, Lieutenant Kurt Zempel of the Sheboygan Police Department reminds residents that there are ordinances in place that guide what you can – and can’t – do.
As in past years, any fires on the beach must be within a permanent fire ring, and pits and trenches on the beach are prohibited.
Possession and consumption of alcohol is also not allowed on any city beach, and without a festival in place, that includes the grass area to the south of the pier walkway this year. Away from the beach, many other city parks do allow alcohol as long as it’s not in a glass container.
As for fireworks, if you’re within the city, you can’t light ‘em up…even sparklers, and police will be on the watch for illegal displays.
All that being said, the SPD hopes everyone has a safe, enjoyable Independence Day celebration.
