I remember our family bible. It wasn’t the most read book in the house but it was the most ornate. It sat in a place of honor and was not to be played with. It wasn’t as though mom didn’t want us reading it. She just didn’t want us to disrespect it.
It was read. In fact, I have no doubt that some of my siblings can quote chapter and verse. Both old and new testament. I’m just not one of them.
Don’t confuse that with disbelief. I am a believer. It just means that I haven’t read it cover to cover. Not even close.
But I did listen to the gospel in church. And I did have years of catechism. All of which helps me to remember certain passages at just the right time. When I need them the most.
That’s why I know using it for a prop is disgusting. To see the President of the United States order the use of tear gas and horse drawn police on peaceful protesters is the same as witnessing a crime. And to watch him walk up to a church to wave the bible around, upside down I might add, for his own personal gain is repulsive.
Donald Trump has done many things during his presidency to embarrass our nation. There’s no need to name them here. Even his most ardent supporters must have to cringe at times. But none of his actions have been this bad.
Yes, I could spend more time reading the good book. And yes, I probably never will get that done. But I do know how important it is. Important to all of us when we need it the most.
If for no other reason than Donald Trump is our President.
Good riding with you.
