(WHBL) – With coronavirus cancelling many trips to the tropics, the tropics came here instead as the center of tropical depression Cristobal passed through western Wisconsin. That’s only the 4th tropical system on record to visit the Badger State.
Typical of a tropical depression, most winds were in rain bands that circled the center – which didn’t have an “eye” like a hurricane. Winds at the Sheboygan County Airport gusted to 46 MPH just before 3 AM. Rains were moderate here, with just over a half an inch from Cristobal.
The most impressive reading is one you might not have noticed – the barometric pressure, which dropped to 29.23 inches of mercury at the airport. That’s something we usually experience only with a blizzard in these parts.
What’s now an “extra-tropical” low continues getting stronger as it exits into Canada, and although it’s gone, another low moving through will keep showers and clouds around today.
