SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) – 75 Sheboygan County residents were tested for COVID-19 since yesterday, and two came up positive. That raises Sheboygan County’s total case number to 67. There were no recoveries in the last 24 hours, leaving 20 cases active, and 2 of those hospitalized.
The State of Wisconsin saw a surge in testing, with 5,523 performed since yesterday – a new high. Of those, 314 tested positive, but as a percentage of the total number tested that amounted to 5.7%, a substantial drop from Wednesday’s 8% rate. That downward trend began after last peaking on Sunday, May 3rd. A 14-day sustained drop in that result is one gating criteria that would allow the state to begin reopening, but it’s not the only one. Another that requires 14 consecutive days of declines involves the daily number of emergency department visits with suspected COVID-19 related concerns. That metric resumed its decline after peaking Monday. Assuming all other metrics continue to perform as required, the earliest that the first phase of the Badger Bounce Back could commence is May 19th.
