SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) – Of 43 persons tested since yesterday’s update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, 2 were positive for COVID-19, raising the total so far to 52 and the number of active cases to 9. The positive test rate in Sheboygan County over the last day is 4.6%. But for the state, trends fared worse, with the highest positive return rate so far recorded at 12.7%. That’s the second consecutive day of increase in positive returns, meaning that the soonest date that Wisconsins Badger Bounce Back plan to re-open from isolation is May 15th. That assumes that the positive test rate drops consistently day-to-day. The number of positive cases in Wisconsin leaped by 460, to a total of 7,314 persons affected. Of those, 327 have died.
Governor Evers today announced that the State Emergency Operations Center of the DHS, Wisconsin Emergency Management and the Wisconsin National Guard will create community testing events in places with a known lack of access to testing, or where more testing is warranted due to infection rates. The first of those events is taking place today in Alma in Buffalo County. The Governor said that we have the capacity to perform 11,000 tests per day, however “…capacity is not the same as utilization, so we have some work to do to ensure everyone who needs a test is getting one, and to understand the full scope of this disease around Wisconsin.”
County DPH also began an every-Friday inclusion of Badger Bounce Back Gating Criteria, graphically detailing 2-week trends in emergency department visits for flu-related concerns, visits for suspected COVID-19, and daily percentage of those testing positive. All three are significant for implementing the stages of reopening the State from isolation.
