PLYMOUTH, WI (WHBL) – The Plymouth City Council met on Tuesday as many do under stay-at-home orders – via conference call – but they were looking ahead to better days.
Among the items on the agenda were the approval of two festivals. The Mill Street Festival hosted by Chamber Main Street was approved for July 11th from 9 till 5, contingent on the COVID situation. Plans are to close North Street to Caroline Street and Mill Street. Another festival hoping for healthier times is the Pumpkin Walk hosted by Chamber Main Street to be held from 4 till 9 on October 30th at Stayer Park.
In another move, the Council acted on a resolution that eliminates fines and late fees at the Plymouth Public Library. The resolution called those fees regressive and discriminatory, and noted that many students were from financially-strapped families. Also noted – around 10% of third graders weren’t proficient in English Language Performance Arts, and cited mounting evidence that going fine-free actually increases library usage without harming revenue in the long run. With the move, late fees are eliminated and unpaid fees are wiped clean.
