UNDATED (WHBL) – The rumor mills are in high gear during the coronavirus pandemic, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin Counties Association are countering one involving travel. Motorist ARE being asked to avoid “non-essential” travel during the public health emergency, but they ARE NOT being stopped by law enforcement to verify the purpose of a trip. They stress that roadways and borders remain open to both in-state and out-of-state travelers.
Wisconsin Counties Association Executive Director Mark O’Connell said that counties could issue a travel advisory to discourage visitors if the situation warrants, and could require visitors to self-quarantine for 14 days, but that is not now the case anywhere in Wisconsin. Additionally, O’Connell explained that counties don’t have legal authority to ban out-of-state travelers or home owners from visiting during the COVID-19 pandemic.
