SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) – Friday’s summary of the COVID-19 outbreak in Sheboygan County reinforced the steady pace of the disease locally. Except for the outbreak at Sunny Ridge, cases are paced at about one addition and one recovery per day. The latest confirmed case added since Thursday was in the 60+ age group. Of the 35 total positive cases, 19 remain active, 14 have recovered. Two persons connected with the Sunny Ridge outbreak succumbed to the Coronavirus, and two remain hospitalized. 514 persons tested returned negative results. Statewide, as of Friday afternoon, 3,068 cases have been confirmed.
Sheboygan County Public Health, echoing widespread expert advice, is urging people to stay home during the Easter/Passover holiday. They say that the number-one goal of the “Safer At Home” and other initiatives is to ensure that the health care system has more beds, frontline health care workers and critical care capacity than the number of people who will become severely ill and need them. “Safer At Home” is designed to flatten the curve of cases, keeping capacity manageable by slowing the spread of COVID-19. SCDPH’s report reiterates that it could still be several more weeks until results of efforts are clear, and we will have to remain vigilant for as long as it takes to stem the pandemic.
…..GOVERNOR EVERS ANNOUNCES COVID-19 VOLUNTEER PROGRAM…..
In order to increase capacity at hospitals and clinics across Wisconsin in anticipation of a surge in the number of people requiring hospitalization and other interventions during the coming weeks, Governor Evers today announced the Covid-19 Volunteer Program. It establishes a network of active and retired healthcare professionals and those who wish to help in non-clinical support positions. Building the network of volunteers now, he says, will greatly reduce the hardships on hospitals and clinics that would not normally have the capacity to care for the increase in patients.
Those who sign up will be assigned to locations across Wisconsin to support ongoing efforts related to the COVID-19 national emergency. Those who are willing to travel should note that when they sign up, and all volunteers are required to complete a background check.
