UNDATED (WHBL) – Shoreline erosion and other high water problems are likely to continue along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced on Tuesday that March’s water levels were the highest recorded for the month, exceeding the previous mark set in 1986. Spring typically experiences rising levels and so more records are likely to be set until seasonal peaks are reached in late spring or early summer. Strong winter storm systems and their large waves have led to substantial coastline erosion, something The Army Corps of Engineers expects to continue in many locations with water levels likely to peak very near last year’s records.
