KOHLER, WI (WHBL) – With families weathering the coronavirus pandemic at home, recreation is recommended to keep people happier and healthy. However, some types of recreation can pose a threat. Kohler Police Chief Shawn Splivalo has announced that the Village of Kohler has made a difficult decision and closed all playground equipment in an attempt to reduce the spread of COVID-19 throughout the community.
Splivalo acknowledged the value of recreation and related that the basketball and tennis courts will remain open for one family per court, but with questions on how long the virus could stay viable on plastic and metal surfaces, slides, swings and the like can’t be used. Splivalo thanked Kohler residents for their sacrifice and asked them to exercise social distancing when enjoying the outdoors.
Kohler Andrae State Park had also taped off its playground equipment as of yesterday in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
