SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – It might seem contradictory in light of Governor Evers’ “Safer At Home” directive to limit excursions outside of the home to only necessary trips, but the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wants you to visit the State Parks. Fees have now been waived for all State Parks and Trails, and they remain open to the public. WHBL contacted the DNR’s Communications Director Sarah Hoye, who told us that the Governor’s order recognizes outdoor activity as “essential”.
Wisconsin DNR Secretary Preston Cole added that spending time outdoors benefits both physical and mental health and can also help relieve stress, especially during this public health emergency. He added that “The DNR is committed to providing a safe environment for our visitors to enjoy, while protecting the health of our staff.”
While entrance fees are waived and the parks and restrooms are open, all state park offices, visitor centers and non-essential buildings, including shelters, are closed for the duration of the public health emergency.
All campsites are closed through April 30th. Refunds will be issued to all who made reservations and no new reservations will be accepted until further notice.
