SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The Sheboygan Area School District will hold classes Monday and Tuesday before the mandatory statewide shutdown of schools goes into effect on Wednesday. Governor Tony Evers mandated all schools in the state close down from Wednesday until April 5 in response to the Coronavirus outbreak. In a press release from Superintendent Seth Harvatine, they announced that staff has been working hard to put together student resources and digital learning plans that will be communicated to students and parents by the end of the day Tuesday. The Plymouth School District announced on their website that schools are closed today through April 5th – and they say they are ready to deliver off site education to students beginning Wednesday.
As schools across Sheboygan County and statewide prepare to shut down for the rest of the month because of the Coronavirus, some free resources are being made available so children can continue to learn online. Charter Communications announced Friday they’ll be offering free broadband and wifi access for the next 60 days for homes with children under age 12 – or college students without a current subscription. The offer begins today – you have to call to set up an appointment. In addition to this service, Charter is also opening up Wi-Fi hot spots within it’s network for the public to use.
Governor Evers wants to know how the coronavirus is impacting Sheboygan County Businesses. In a press release from the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation, they announced that they’ve partnered with the Small Business Development Center at UW Green Bay to assist with the Small Business Administration disaster assistance response to the corona virus. The Governor is reportedly considering declaring a statewide disaster, which would make Economic Injury Disaster Loans available. You can get more information at SheboyganCountyEDC.com.
