UNDATED (WHBL) – Last week, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue – the agency better known for collecting your tax money – sent notices informing some individuals that they’ve got part of a $9.2 million bounty coming to them. That’s the result of a program begun in 2015 that matches unclaimed property with the owners who often don’t even know the money exists.
Unclaimed property includes funds from savings or checking accounts, uncashed dividends, insurance policies, or other accounts that the owner may have forgotten.
If you’re the verified owner of $2,000 or less you’ll get a check in the mail. Over 2 grand yields a letter with instructions on how to claim the property. Since 2015 over $37 million has been returned to the owners.
