MADISON, WI (WHBL) – The Grand Champion Cheese wasn’t from Wisconsin – that honor goes to a Guyere from Switzerland – but local cheesemakers did score some impressive awards at the World Championship Cheese Contest that concluded Thursday in Madison.
A “Best of Class” award was given to Henning Cheese in Kiel for their Chipotle Cheddar Bandage Daisie in the Pepper Flavored Cheese, Medium Heat class. Colby Cheese from Henning’s took 2nd and 3rd in their class.
Baker Cheese Factory in St. Cloud garnered 3rd place for their Jalapeno Pepper String Cheese. Pine River of Newton took Best of Class for their Jalapeno Cold Pack Cheese Food and 2nd for their Spicy Beer Cold Pack Cheese Spread. Sartori of Plymouth won 2nd Place in the Hard Mixed Milk Cheese class for their Limited Edition Pastorale Blend. Masters Gallery of Plymouth took 2nd in the Shredded Cheese Blends for their Shredded Hot Pepper Blend, and 3rd for their Shredded Parmesan, Gruyere & Swiss blend. Finally, Great Lakes Cheese of Plymouth was awarded “Best of Class” in the Natural Sliced Cheese category for their New York Extra Sharp Cracker Cut Cheese and 2nd for their Havarti Cracker Cuts.
