MANITOWOC, WI (WHBL) – The Manitowoc Harbor is set for a major improvement. A $2.2 million grant announced by Governor Evers on Friday will fund improvements to support the manufacturing, assembly and shipping of cranes for the US Navy. The improvements are needed to enable Konecranes and Broadwind Towers and Heavy Fabrications – all of Manitowoc – to manufacture cranes for the US Navy.
Once manufactured, the cranes must be tested and shipped fully assembled to the east coast. According to Wisconsin DOT Secretary-designee Craig Thompson, without the improvements to the Manitowoc City Centre, these jobs would likely go to an out-of-state port.
The funds come from the Wisconsin DOT’s Harbor Assistance Program.
