MANITOWOC, WI (WHBL) – Last November the Manitowoc County Crime Stoppers launched P3 – an app for Apple and Android devices that allows users to send anonymous tips to law enforcement. According to Sheriff Dan Hartwig, after just 3-1/2 months of use, 73 tips have been received through P3 – resulting in $735 in rewards paid to the tipsters. That compares to around 100 tips in an entire year with the old system.
Hartwig says the P3 app allows real time dialog with investigators, helps transfer information between jurisdictions and tracks program success.
The Crime Stoppers telephone number is still in use for those who prefer talking to an operator, and emergencies or crime that’s underway should be reported through 911 only.
