Mark Benjamin Stokdyk, age 72, of Plymouth, died peacefully with his family by his side at Sharon
Richardson Community Hospice on Thursday, January 30, 2020, after a long and aggressive cancer due
to complications of Agent Orange.
Mark was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
He was born on June 25, 1947, a son of the late LaVerne and Gertrude (DeBruine) Stokdyk. He
graduated from Oostburg High School in 1965.
Mark proudly served in the United States Army in Vietnam as a journeyman carpenter from 1965-1968.
On June 20, 1970, he married Dianne Hopeman in Cedar Grove.
In his working years, he worked in farming, carpentry, and landscaping. He was always there to help
family, friends, and neighbors with remodeling projects and often helped at home with landscaping and
shoveling.
Mark enjoyed spending time coloring, doing puzzles as giving them as gifts, making anything with wood,
watching sports and wrestling. He also enjoyed going to races, car shows with his sons, State Fair to see
the Clydesdale Horse Show, going to see Christmas lights, decorating Christmas cookies. Most of all, he
loved spending time with the “apples of his eyes,” his grandchildren and great grandchild. He was
looking forward to the second great grandchild being born in March 2020.
Survivors include: Loving wife of 49 years: Dianne; Children: Todd (Joan) Stokdyk, Nancy Stokdyk (special
friend: Pat Hermes), and Eric Stokdyk (significant other: Cheryl Beltran); Grandchildren: Austin, Antonio,
Houston, and Dallas Beltran, Kayla Stokdyk (fiancé: Zachary Sparks); Great Grandchild: Liam Stokdyk.
He is also survived by: Sisters: Janet Sand and Carolyn (Lowell) Kappers; Sisters-in-law: Janice Lohuis; and
Brother-in-law: Virgil (Marian) Mullikin.
He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mark was preceded in death by: His parents; Brother: Wayne (Margie) Stokdyk; an infant brother; Sister:
Eleanor Mullikin; Brothers-in-law: Fred Sand, Fred Marksthaler, Earl Lohuis; Sister-in-law: Audrey (Don)
Ringel; and Nephew: Taylor VanderWeele.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday (February 4, 2020) at 6:00 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral Home in
Plymouth, with Jay VanderWeele officiating the service. Burial will be in the Hingham Cemetery.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday (Feb. 4) from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Mark’s name.
