Joseph Henry Freiberg, 91, of Kohler passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Prairie
Crossing in Sheboygan Falls.
Joe was born on September 18, 1927 in Hubbell, MI, son of Nicholas and Marion (Chaput)
Freiberg. He was a 1945 graduate of Lake Linden – Hubbell High School. He worked at Calumet
and Hecla Mining for seven years before moving to Kohler in 1952. Joseph held several
positions at the Kohler Company before retiring in 1992 after 39 years of service.
Joe was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Kohler, Knights of Columbus and the
Kohler Quarter Century Club. Joe enjoyed archery, flying model airplanes, football, stock car
racing, puzzles, wood carving and the Green Bay Packers.
Joe is survived by two sisters, Marion Rose of Green Bay, and Jewel Dahlstrom of Ontonagon,
MI; one brother, Lionel Freiberg of Stanford, MI; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Freiberg of
Mishicot; nephew, Mark (Varangrat) Povalski. Joe is also survived by numerous nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Joan Freiberg, Theresa (Glenn)
Bettens and Loretta (Eugene) Povalski; one brother, Lawrence Freiberg; one sister-in-law, Elaine
Frieberg; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Rose and Jack Dahlstrom.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St John Evangelist Catholic Church in Kohler at 11:30
am on Friday, January 11, 2019 with the Rev. Joe Dominic officiating. Burial will take place at
Woodland Cemetery in Kohler.
Family and friends will gather at the church on Friday from 10:30 am until the time of Mass at
11:30 am.

A memorial fund is being established in his memory for Pine Haven Christian Communities.
Joe’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs at Prairie Crossing and
Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the kindness and loving care given to Joe.
