Barbara Ann (Thimmig) Abstetar, age 74, passed away on September 27, 2018 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Barbara was the daughter of the late Arno and Lucille (Wensauer) Thimmig and was born April 12, 1944 in Sheboygan. She graduated from South High School in the class of 1962. She was united in marriage to James Abstetar at Ss Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in 1964 and had 54 wonderful years of marriage. Barbara was a devoted mother and took great joy in her children and especially grandchildren. She attended many sporting events that they participated in. Barbara was employed at the Reiss Coal Company, Sheboygan Press and Wilson Mutual Insurance as a receptionist. She was very creative in household décor. Other hobbies of hers included bowling, bicycling, hiking and enjoying nature.
She is survived by her husband, James; twin daughters, Julie (Mark) Schmitz and Sandra (Mike) Hassinger; son, Jeff (Penny) Abstetar; grandchildren, Tanner, Kira, Mitchel, Madelynn, Sam and Thomas “T.J.” Barbara is further survived by her brother, Roger Thimmig of Sheboygan; sister-in-law, Doreen (Robert) Janssen and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Thimmig.
There will be a Memorial Mass for Barbara at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Ss Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 822 New Jersey Ave., Sheboygan, with Fr. Richard Cerpich officiating. Visitation will be at church from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Mass at 2:00 p.m.
