Mary Ann “Annie” Luedke, age 87, of Plymouth, passed away on
Saturday morning, August 18, 2018, at Anita’s Gardens in Plymouth where she had
been a resident for 10 days.
She was born in Plymouth on October 10, 1930, daughter of
the late Simon and Emma (Mahnke) Curtiss.
Mary Ann grew up imagining life on a farm. While in high school she worked for the phone
company in Plymouth as a switch operator.
After three years at the phone company, she began cleaning for her
neighbor, Mrs. Luedke. While cleaning she
met Mrs. Luedke’s son, Fred. In 1948 she
graduated from Plymouth High School and later that year on November 24, 1948,
she married Frederick Luedke in Sheboygan.
Together they operated Fred’s family farm, Luedke’s Dairy
and Grain farm until retirement. The
couple then resided at Salem Green in Plymouth.
Fred preceded her in death on March 23, 2008. Mary Ann continued living at Salem Green
until 10 days ago when she moved to Anitas Gardens in Plymouth.
Mary Ann had a love for ceramics. She taught ceramics classes for over 25 years
in Plymouth to people of all ages. She
also served as a 4-H leader for 9 years, worked as a ballot clerk for many
years in both the town and city of Plymouth.
She was always giving of her time and effort and was a real “Queen of
volunteering.”
She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in
Plymouth, and was also a member of the Plymouth and Elkhart Lake Red Hatters.
Mary Ann enjoyed playing golf for 35 years, playing cards,
BINGO, bowling, and was a master of the Wii Bowling video game.
Survivors include: Two Children: Warren (Linda) Luedke of
Plymouth, Susan (Mark) Stevens of Green Bay; Three Grandchildren: Ryan (Lace)
Luedke of Menasha, Travis Luedke (Jenny Brown) of Plymouth, and Christopher
Stevens (Sara Zellner) of Golden Valley, MN; Two Great-grandchildren: Jax and
Breckan Luedke; and Four Sisters: Helen Toerpe, Eileen (Ron) Bloemer, Maureen
(Bernie) Rudebeck, and Kathleen (Ken) Schaap.
She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by: Her Husband, Parents,
Granddaughter: Kristin Luedke, Brother: Romaine (Elaine) Curtiss, and
Brother-in-law: Ed Toerpe.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday evening (August 24,
2018) at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service at
7:00 P.M. Father Wayne Bittner will
officiate. Burial will be in the
Winooski Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in
Mary Ann’s name.
