Glenda M. Ames, age 84, of Plymouth, passed away on Friday,
August 3, 2018 at Anita’s Gardens in Plymouth, where she had been a resident
for the past four years.
She was born in Plymouth, WI on July 2, 1934, daughter of
the late Ray and Florence (Moeller) Hoffman.
Glenda attended Plymouth schools and graduated from Plymouth
High School in 1952. She then attended
Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, graduating as a Registered Nurse in
1955. She worked at Memorial Hospital in
Sheboygan and later at Plymouth Hospital.
During a week-long vacation to visit girlfriends living in Long Beach,
California in 1957, she was set up on a blind date with Bob Ames. Bob and Glenda were married on May 3, 1958 at
First Congregational UCC in Plymouth.
They lived in Long Beach until December, 1961 when they returned to
Plymouth to start their family. They
lived in Plymouth their entire married life.
Glenda became a stay at home Mom in 1970 to focus on her
kids and their school activities. In
1978, she went back to work at Citizens Bank in Plymouth, and years later at 52
Stafford in Plymouth.
She was a lifelong member of First Congregational UCC in
Plymouth. She was very involved in the
Sunday School program but her passion was music and was a lifelong member of
the choir. She was also the church
organist for 23 years, retiring from the bench in 2010. She gave so many hours to the church in many
different capacities over the decades. She
shared her strong faith with her children.
Glenda loved to sew, craft, needlepoint, knit, crochet, and
decorate her home for all holidays, especially Christmas. She also loved to travel with her family.
Survivors include:
three children; David (Wendy) Ames
of Sheboygan, Lisa Ames (fiancé Gary Myrah) of Cedarburg, and Laurie (Dan)
Volkomener of Plymouth: three
grandchildren: Sam Ames of Sheboygan,
Calli Ames of Shorewood, and Jacob Ames of Sheboygan; Brother:
Graham (Liz) Hoffman of Plymouth; Sister-in-Law Carolyn Bartholomew of
Huntington Beach, CA.
Glenda is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives
and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob on July 13,
2016, her parents, her father and mother in law, Thomas and Margaret Ames, and
brothers in law, Richard Ames and Charles Bartholomew.
Following Glenda’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at First
Congregational UCC in Plymouth from 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM. A Memorial Service will take place at 6:30 PM
with Rev. Kristal Klemme, Pastor of the church, and Dale Miller, Pastor of
Salem Plankroad church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in
Glenda’s name.
