Andrew J. Giesen of Sheboygan
passed away on April 28 at Sharon Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan
Falls. Andy was born in Hilbert, WI to
Andrew P. and Elizabeth (Richards) Giesen on March 17, 1933. He attended schools in New Holstein until his
sophomore year when his parents moved to Little Elkhart Lake. Andy graduated from Elkhart Lake high school
in 1951. He proudly served his country
in the US Army from 1953- 1955 during the Korean War and was stationed in
Japan, Korea and Hawaii. After discharge
from the military, Andy attended radiology technician school at General Rose
Memorial and National Jewish Hospitals in Denver, CO from 1956-1958. In 1956 he married Jeaneen Jacobs of Kohler. They were later divorced. On August 30, 1975 in Waseca, Minnesota, Andy
married the light of his life and the person who gave meaning, calm, joy,
excitement and fulfilment to his life, his wife Marjorie (nee Gigeay).
Andy worked as supervisor of the
X-Ray department at Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc, WI from 1959 to 1960 and
then began his employment as supervisor of the X-Ray department at The
Sheboygan Clinic in December 1960. He
retired from The Sheboygan Clinic in 2000.
During his tenure at the Clinic, Andy conducted many elementary school
children on tours of the X-Ray department and told many a tale about Mr.
McTavish. Andy was involved in Boy
Scouting for many years and started the first Medical Explorer post in
Sheboygan. He was a member of the
American Society of Radiologic Technicians, a past district president of the
Wisconsin Society of Radiologic Technicians, long time member of the Sheboygan
Camera Club, past member of Lakeshore Apartment Association, member of the
board for Sheboygan Concert Association and served as president of the board for
the Sheboygan Senior Activity Center as well as being a member of the Sheboygan
Commission on Aging. Andy was very
proud to be a member of Lions International and of the Sheboygan Evening Lions
Club. He was a past club president,
served as a zone chairman and had received the Melvin Jones Award.
Andy is survived by his wife
Marjorie, two sons and a daughter-in-law Eric Giesen and Craig (Karen) Giesen
all of Sheboygan, his brother and sister-in-law Daniel (Kati) Giesen of
Oconomowoc, WI, four grandchildren Amanda Giesen, Ashley (Damian) Anderkin,
Matthew Giesen and Jacob Giesen all of Sheboygan as well as his special buddy
and great-grandson Gabriel Giesen also of Sheboygan. He is further survived by two sisters-in-law and
a brother-in-law Marianne Adelmann of Eagan, MN and Marcia (Arlie) Schroeder of
Mankato, MN and their daughters Sara (Nick) Willaert and family and Lisa
Schroeder all of Mankato, MN. Andy was
preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law Charlie and Dorothy Gigeay
and a brother-in-law James Adelmann.
Per Andy’s wishes, there will be
no formal services however a celebration of his life and interment with
military honors will be held at a later date.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorials can be sent to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation, Leader Dogs for
the Blind, Sheboygan Salvation Army.
