Elizabeth “Betty” Oonk, 90,
passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018, at her home in Cedar Grove.
Betty was born on May 8,
1927, to Albert & Esther (Brill) Prange at their farm home in rural Cedar
Grove.
Betty attended River Valley
School and graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1945. Betty used her
accounting and payroll skills at General Box Co., Kool Kitchen, Sheboygan
School System, Oostburg High School, and later part time at the Jack Verhelst
Realty. Betty was also an excellent
seamstress, did knitting, tatting, and made a lot of very special clothes and
items for members of her family. She also enjoyed flower gardening.
On August 9, 1980, she
married Marvin J. Oonk. He preceded her in death on August 30,1991.
Betty was a lifelong member
of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove where she was a member
of the Women’s Missionary Society. She was a Red Cross volunteer and attended
the Cedar Grove Senior Citizens.
Betty is survived by a step-son-in-law,
Lloyd TerMaat of Cedar Grove, three step-sons, Ron (Bonnie) Oonk, Roger (Mame)
Oonk, and Bradley (Mary) Oonk, all of Oostburg.
She was also richly blessed with ten step-grandchildren, 22 step-great grandchildren,
and one step-great great grandchild. She
is further survived by two nieces, Judy (John) DenBoer of Cedar Grove and Jane
(Steve) Weavers of Oostburg; two nephews, Wesley (Diane) Eernisse of Plymouth,
and Terry (Patti) Eernisse of Cedar Grove; great nieces and nephews, cousins,
and friends.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Marvin, a step-daughter, Carol (Oonk) TerMaat; and a sister and
brother in law, Nelda and Roger Eernisse.
Funeral services for Betty
will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian
Church in Cedar Grove at 11:30 am with the Rev. David Cornette officiating.
Interment will take place at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland at 2 pm.
There will be a time to
greet the family at the church from 10 am until the time of the service at
11:30 am.

A memorial fund is being established in
Betty’s name for Calvary OPC, Sharon S. Richardson Hospice and Embrace In-Home
Care in Sheboygan.
The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home in
Oostburg (920-564-2771) is serving Betty’s family.
