Raymond
Potter, 92, of Sheboygan, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Ray was
born on April 12, 1925, in Sheboygan, to Cornelius and Jennie (DenBoer) Potter.
He attended Sheboygan Christian School and North High School, graduating in
1943.
During
WWII, from 1943-46, Ray proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the
USS Salt Lake City in the Pacific Theater of Operations. On July 1, 1950,
Raymond was united in marriage to Wilma Marie Verhelst. Ray worked in the
laboratory at Plastics Engineering Company, retiring in 1990.
Ray was a
member of Hope Reformed Church. He enjoyed sports, yard work, crossword
puzzles, and bird watching.
In
addition to his wife of 67 years, Raymond is survived by two daughters, Brenda
Rae of Beverly Hills, CA, and Claire Nell of Sheboygan; two sisters-in-law,
Audrey Potter of Sheboygan, and Susan Lecky of Dallas, TX; and many nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings (3
sisters and 3 brothers), and his son-in-law, Michael Sandler.
Funeral
services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Ballhorn
Funeral Chapels. Rev. Bill TeWinkle, pastor of Hope Church, will officiate. A
time of visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
Entombment will take place at Garden of Peace Mausoleum.
The family
wishes to extend its gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the Sharon
Richardson home hospice team and the compassionate care provided by the staff.
In lieu of
flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Raymond’s name for Sharon S.
Richardson Community Hospice.
