Ella Zimmerman (nee Leonhardt, formerly Fischer), 96, a longtime resident of Sheboygan, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Spring Meadows in Libertyville, IL, her home of the last 12 years.
Ella was born October 5, 1921 in Sheboygan, the daughter of Gottfried and Marie (nee Hermann) Leonhardt. She graduated from Kohler High School in 1939. On January 13, 1940, she was united in marriage with George Fischer. He preceded her in death in 1957. Ella raised their family in Sheboygan, and worked at Pranges following George’s death. She later went on to work for Sheboygan Public School System as a secretary for more than 15 years. In April of 1972, she was united in marriage with Earl Zimmerman. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Ella was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. She was an accomplished sewer and quilter, an avid reader, and enjoyed needlepoint, baking and gardening.
Ella is survived by her children: John (Kay) Fischer of Third Lake, IL, Sharon Klug of Hales Corner, WI and Mary (Ralph) Brandstaetter of Rock Hills, SC. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her sister Marie Pfister of Milwaukee, other relatives and friends. Ella is preceded in death by her husbands George Fischer and Earl Zimmerman, her daughter Katherine Fischer and her siblings: Christ, John, Adolph, Fred, Robert, Elizabeth, Amalia and Lydia.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 12, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church,

in Sheboygan. The family will receive visitors at the church on Fridayfrom 1:00 – 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest beside George at Calvary Cemetery in Sheboygan.
