MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- Democrat Brett Hulsey has another campaign tactic that is drawing some criticism.
Hulsey plans to attend the Republican state convention in Milwaukee Friday to hand out Ku Klux Klan-style hoods to Republicans to protest what he calls their racist policies. Hulsey has been critical of Republican initiatives, including the voter ID law which was just blocked in federal court.
Wisconsin’s Executive Director for the GOP is Joe Fadness. He calls Hulsey’s hoods a, “reprehensible, vile stunt” that should outrage everyone, and not just Republicans.
Hulsey made the hoods with his daughter’s sewing machine from curtain material. He presented some examples to the state capitol press corps Thursday.
This is not Hulsey’s first campaign controversy. He also planned to have someone attend Democratic candidate Mary Burke’s campaign appearances wearing a chicken suit, claiming she was too chicken to debate him.
