SHEBOYGAN, Wi (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Police Department’s annual report is out, and it shows that serious crime in Sheboygan decreased 18 percent last year, but drug arrests increased dramatically. Heroin arrests quadrupled, while cocaine arrests tripled. Chief Chris Domagalski says it mirrors a statewide trend. He said the department has taken the approach that they can't just act as responders, but must act as facilitators and work on prevention and become part of the solution. Domagalski says the department has increased its outreach into the neighborhoods over the past year, and that will continue because when you build relationships in the neighborhoods you can find out about problems and issues and do something about them. Domagalski also points to the establishment of the Tavern Safety Coalition as a major success. He said the tavern owners have stepped up and worked with police in trying to prevent crime in and around their taverns.
