MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - It's been two months since a Milwaukee police officer shot and killed a mentally ill man in the city's downtown Red Arrow Park.
Now, the victim's family is upset that the investigation is running so long -- and authorities are not telling them much about it.
Dontre Hamilton was killed April 30th, when a police officer found the victim on the ground -- and a struggle ensued as the officer tried patting him down. Police said the officer shot Hamilton as many as 10 times.
Monday, the Hamilton family's attorneys issued a statement saying that officials are not keeping the family up to date on the investigation.
The State Justice Department is leading the probe. Spokeswoman Dana Brueck said officers are communicating with relatives as much as possible while the investigation is ongoing.
