SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department is gearing up for its annual Citizen’s Academy. Sgt. Jim Gottsacker said the 11-week program begins on March 13th, but people can already signup online or by picking up an application at the Sheriff’s Department.
Gottsacker explains the purpose is to help people better understand what law enforcement does and how they serve the community. He hopes that this will help citizens and law enforcement work together to make the area safer.
The sessions run for three hours beginning at six p.m. and will include plenty of hands-on activities. Subjects that will be taught include defense and arrest tactics, verbal sparring with a suspect, conducting a traffic stop, learning about SWAT team equipment, and others.
The deadline to apply is February 21st.
