SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Some members of the Sheboygan Armory Foundation are upset that the city is actively seeking proposals to develop the armory and has yet to meet with them. Jason Peters appeared before the city council during its meeting Monday night, upset that Mayor Mike Vandersteen has yet to meet with the group. He said they are asking for a dollar a year lease and they are ready to begin renovating the building. He said, "I have so many people lined up that want to help us pay for it and I can't do anything because I can't get access." But Vandersteen said the city has already mailed out 58 Requests for Proposals and set a deadline of October 31st to receive them. He said the city will then be reviewing all of the proposals. Meanwhile, two members of the public also appeared before the council and called for the building to be demolished. Paul Gruber said the site has better potential without the building there. Bob Chesebro said the building isn't worth preserving and he questioned whether the Armory Foundation will be able to raise the money to maintain the building on an ongoing basis.
