SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A jury of 6 men and 6 women deliberated for about an hour Thursday afternoon and found 23 year old Michael Lemerande, of Oshkosh, guilty of reckless homicide in the stabbing death of 41 year old Nicholas Lehrke, of Sheboygan, last January. Judge James Bolgert ordered a pre-sentence investigation and remanded Lemerandem, who showed no emotion, to the county jail to await sentencing. No sentencing date has yet been set. Lemerande is facing up to 27 years in prison. The defense had claimed during the four-day trial that it was a case of self-defense and that Lemerande was protecting a friend when he stabbed Lehrke in the back during a fight on South 12th Street. The prosecution contended it was only a scuffle and that Lemerande’s action was criminal and needlessly ended the life of Nicholas Lehrke.
