Burke: I won't make any promises during gubernatorial campaign

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The first election challenger to Governor Scott Walker says she'll only make one campaign promise for now -- not to make any promises.

Democrat Mary Burke tells a media outlet she won't make any commitments on major issues at the moment.

She vows not to do what the Republican Walker did, and promise to create a quarter-million private sector jobs in four years. Walker is just over a-third of his goal -- and his critics are doing everything to make sure his promise comes back to bite him at election time next fall.

Also, Burke said she won't do what Democrat Kathleen Falk did last year, and vow to un-do the 2011 collective bargaining limits that Walker and his fellow Republicans imposed.

Critics faulted the former Dane County executive for appearing to be in the unions' pockets.

Burke, a former state commerce secretary and Trek Bicycle executive, says she's not in the race to make promises -- and she'll spell out her plans for creating jobs later.

The Walker camp told the media outlet that the governor continues to move the state forward, and voters would not want to change course.
