WASHINGTON,DC (WHBL) - Today, U.S. Representative Tom Petri (R-WI) stood with over 50 bipartisan House members to encourage congressional leaders to work together to end the government shutdown and come to a resolution on a long-term deficit-reduction plan. The event was hosted by the bipartisan organization No Labels and was held in the Cannon Caucus Room on Capitol Hill earlier this morning.
Petri said, “This is a bipartisan event led by, among others, my colleague Reid Ribble from Wisconsin under the label, No Labels, to bring together some 50 Republican and Democratic members of the House of Representatives to urge that our leaders in both parties in the Executive Branch and the Congress stop the stalemate and sit down and negotiate without precondition."
He said the point of doing all this is certainly not to shut the government down or to cause inconvenience for people. Petri said the point is to get our national budget under control and on a sustainable, long-term path.
