UNDATED (WTVB) - A new national study indicates sexual assaults are greatly under reported and poorly counted. The study by the National Research Council also found that law enforcement and support service agencies often can't provide survivors with the help they need. The research council points out that 80% of sexual assaults go unreported to law enforcement. It recommends the National Crime Victimization Survey begin using new approaches to interviews, including changing the wording of questions. In part, the council wants sexual assault wants described in health terms, not just criminal terms.
