The spring high school sports season is reaching it's crescendo with the WIAA tennis tournament underway at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. Three area doubles teams advanced on Thursday. Morgan Ross and Travis Waibel of Sheboygan North sailed through their opening match 6-0, 6-0. Stephen Blend and Matthew Primozic of Plymouth advanced, as did the Kohler team of Tim Valicenti and Kyle Struck. Dozens of Lakeshore athletes will be taking part in the State Track and Field Meet beginning Friday at UW-LaCrosse. In a baseball regional final at Wildwood Park Thursday afternoon, Sheboygan South stunned rival Sheboygan North with a 7 run explosion in the top of the 7th inning to win 10-9. Robert Hoffman delivered a three run double and A.J.Gutierrez singled in the go ahead run for the Redwings. The girls state soccer tournament also opened Thursday evening. Sheboygan North got a goal from Ali Addesso to beat Shawano 1-0 to advance to Saturday's regional final. Sheboygan South, the number three seed, rolled past Kaukauna 6-0. In Division 2, Sheboygan Falls defeated Delavan-Darien 2-1 and Plymouth blanked East Troy 1-0. Defending Division 3 sectional champion Oostburg opened with a 5-0 victory over Manitowoc Roncalli. Ozaukee beat Random Lake 4-0, Howards Grove defeated Sheboygan Christian 2-0, New Holstein got by Sheboygan Lutheran/Kohler 4-1 and Kiel was eliminated by NEW Lutheran 3-1.
