SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The city of Sheboygan’s Wastewater Treatment Plant received some special recognition during Monday night’s city council meeting. Mayor Mike Vandersteen presented a couple of excellence awards - which the plant has received - to Superintendent Dale Doerr. The plant was recognized for being energy self-sufficient, producing 88 percent of its electrical needs and 90 percent of its heat requirements. Doerr said there are days when the plant can produce a surplus of energy and actually turn the meter backwards. The plant handles 18-million gallons per day and serves 7 communities with 68,000 people.
