MADISON, WI (WHBL) - The Joint Finance Committee has approved a proposal by State Representative Dan LeMahieu of Cascade to put some restraints on the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program. LeMahieu’s motion reducdes the overall bonding authority and limits land acquisitions by the state while focusing on developing and improving the land already owned. Senator Joe Leibham of Sheboygan said the limits are needed since the debt service on land purchases is about 1.6-million dollars per week. LeMahieu said the goal is to make sure the program can continue to protect and preserve land for the citizens who love the outdoors while still protecting the taxpayers.
