PITTSBURGH, PA (WHBL) - Andrew McCutcheon hit a lead-off homer in the bottom of the 12th inning Tuesday night, to give Pittsburgh a 4-3 home victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. It ended the Brewers’ five-game winning streak at P-N-C Park. Mike Fiers took the loss and fell to 0-2. Vin Mazarro improved to 2-0, as he and two other Pirate relievers held the Crew scoreless in its final six frames. The Brewers were up 3-2 in the eighth, when John Axford blew his third save opportunity of the year. Russell Martin doubled home Neil Walker, with the help of a wide relay throw from Brewers’ shortstop Jean Segura. That tied the game at three and set the stage for McCutcheon’s walk-off blast. The Pirates won despite going 0 for 15 with runners in scoring position. Milwaukee wasn’t much better in that department, at 1 for 9. Segura homered and drove in two runs. Ryan Braun doubled twice. Carlos Gomez doubled, singled, and had an R-B-I as Milwaukee dropped to 1-4 on its 10-game road trip against National League Central opponents. Martin doubled twice, as the Pirates have won four of their last five. The series continues tonight. Right-hander Yovani Gallardo will start for Milwaukee against Pirates’ left-hander Wandy Rodriguez. Pregame coverage on WHBL gets underway at 5:30.
