MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Milwaukee is expected to have one of the nation’s largest pro-immigration marches on this May Day.

But the parade will be shorter than in previous years, and will take a different route.

Nancy Flores of the immigrant rights’ group Voces de la Frontera said folks have complained that past marches were too long and too cold.

That last thing won’t be a problem Wednesday, with highs in the 80’s expected in Milwaukee.

Organizers say they’ll urge Congress to amend the immigration reform bill that’s pending in the U.S. Senate. The Reverend Grace Cajiuat of the Wisconsin United Methodist Church told reporters Tuesday that the bill needs, “a real path to citizenship” and steps to improve the rights of immigrant workers.

Tens of thousands are expected to take part in May Day rallies throughout the country. Organizers say New York, Chicago, and Milwaukee are expected to have the biggest crowds.

But media reports say the throngs will not be as big as in 2006, when Menomonee Falls House Republican Jim Sensenbrenner tried but failed to make it a felony to be in the United States illegally.
