Dozens of volunteers help search for Trevino

MAPLEWOOD, MN (WSAU) -  The third weekend of volunteer searches for a missing Twin Cities woman originally from the Wausau area as turned up more items of interest, but no victim or solid evidence. Dozens of family, friends, and total strangers are searching for Kira Trevino with emphasis on the Keller Lake area in Maplewood, Minnesota.

One of the Saturday search volunteers found something, but St. Paul police are not sure yet if the item is connected to the case. Volunteer Ashley Davidson told the St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper that she was using a shovel and moving snow when she came across the metal item. Police collected the item to have it examined. St. Paul Police Public Information Officer Howie Padilla says It's way too early to tell if the items are related to the case.

Search party members were greeted by a note from Kria Trevino’s family. Kira’s youngest sister Felicia wrote, "I know her spirit will help guide you and give you the strength to keep going."

They’re still going.

There’s a special fund set up to help Kira’s family with expenses:

Kira Steger Trevino Fund, River Valley Bank, 327 N. 17th Ave. Wausau, WI 54401.

Police have set up a tip line for the case at 651-560-3277.
