GREEN BAY, WI (WHBL) - The Green Bay Packers have failed to get free-agent running back Steven Jackson. He agreed to a three-year, 12-million dollar contract with the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday. The Packers had an interest in the 30-year-old Jackson, who spent 8 seasons with the St. Louis Rams. But it was apparent that the Packers couldn’t afford Jackson, as Green Bay tries to save some of its salary cap room to re-up with Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews. The Falcons gave Jackson four-million dollars in guaranteed money. He was looking to hook up with a contender after the Rams failed to make the playoffs since his rookie season there in 2004.
Meanwhile, Packers’ free agent receiver Greg Jennings will have his official visit with Minnesota today. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said Jennings had dinner with Vikings’ officials Thursday night before his deliberations at the team’s complex. The paper said Jennings has not indicated his financial demands to Minnesota as of early last evening.
