Sheboygan School District delays vote on early retirement, health reimbursement plans

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Area School District Board of Education delayed a decision Tuesday evening regarding support staff early retirement.

When speaking on Sheboygan's Morning News on WHBL Wednesday morning, Superintendent Joseph Sheehan said administration presented a plan that is designed to ensure they can pay out benefits.  The plan is similar to what administration and teachers would get following changes on their plans, it is intended for certain people who do not qualify for more benefits, and it ensures the district can afford to pay it.

The administration also presented a plan that would help pay off health reimbursement accounts debts over the next several decades.

After board members voiced concerns regarding the impact these plans would have on the district’s financial future, the board directed administration to come up with plans that would ensure the district has a fund balance of at least 20-percent of the budget’s size.  A special meeting for a final vote is expected to be held in the next several weeks.
