CINCINNATI, OH (WHBL) - Late heroics from Cincinnati's Jay Bruce in the 10th inning lifted the Reds over the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 Friday night. Bruce hit the game-winning home run off of a Burke Badenhop pitch, who picks up his third loss of the season (0-3).
Second baseman Scooter Gennett, who is from Cincinnati, hit his first Major League home run - the first of his three hits on the night. Martin Maldonado hit a tying homer with two outs in the eighth inning for Milwaukee. However, the Brewers could not get the timely hits - finishing 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position and stranding 11 runners on base. Defensively, the Brewers committed a couple errors, which led to runs for the Reds.
Milwaukee has now lost 5 straight in Cincinnati, dating back to last season.
Also on Friday, Ryan Braun was put on the 15-day disabled list with a sore thumb. He had missed the four previous games before last night's game.
The two teams will meet again Saturday afternoon. Pregame coverage on WHBL begins at 2:35.
